This first phase of construction will form part of the wider £110m Earlsdon Park regeneration scheme next to Coventry Rugby Club which will see the transformation of the old city college and adjacent land into a stunning mixed use development incorporating new homes, offices, cafes and restaurants.

The college building itself will be sympathetically converted, retaining many original features including the community theatre at its heart. MCD Developments have now submitted a planning application to change the use of the college to a 100 bedroom hotel. Following initial consultation with local businesses, high demand has been identified for a hotel in this area which would be ideally located on the upper floors of the landmark college building. The new plans would further enhance the leisure, business and residential mix at the site.

The amended planning application, lodged this month, also includes proposals for a fully sustainable office building in place of the originally proposed residential block. The main impetus for this is the rising demand for inward investment into the city from businesses both regionally and nationally for more high quality office accommodation, coupled with the slow down in the housing market towards the end of 2008 – the new balance of retail, commercial and residential will make Earlsdon Park an exceptional example of successful urban regeneration.

Following careful research and design, the new plans for Earlsdon Park would see greater public spaces and more privacy for residents whilst creating a cohesive business hub.
